Frequently Asked

Prep, cure times, moisture testing, flake coverage, pickup and warranty — the questions we field every week at the counter.

Systems & Materials

What's the difference between epoxy and polyaspartic?

Epoxy is a high-build, cost-effective base that bonds deep into prepped concrete but ambers under UV and takes longer to cure. Polyaspartic is UV stable, far more abrasion and chemical resistant, and cures fast enough to walk the same day. Most of our garage systems use an epoxy or MVB base coat with a polyaspartic clear top coat.

Are all your products 100% solids?

No — we carry a range of products for different jobs. Some, like our high-build and moisture vapor barrier coats, are 100% solids. Others, such as certain sealers, stains and water-based clear coats, are not. Tell us the job and we'll spec the right product for it.

What flake sizes do you stock?

We stock 1/4 inch genuine vinyl flake in 40 lb boxes. 1 inch flake is available by special order — call or send a quote request and we'll get it on the next truck.

Prep & Install

Do I have to grind the concrete first?

Yes. Mechanical prep — diamond grinding or shot blasting to a CSP 2-3 profile — is the single biggest factor in whether a coating lasts. Acid etching alone is not enough for a polyaspartic or 100% solids system.

Do I need a moisture vapor barrier?

If the slab is new, below grade, or has no vapor retarder under it, test it. Anything over about 3 lbs MVER or 75% RH needs an MVB base coat or the finish system can blister and delaminate.

How long before I can drive on it?

Typical polyaspartic systems are foot traffic ready in 4-8 hours and vehicle ready in 24-48 hours at 70F. Cold slabs slow the cure — plan on the long end below 50F.

Can I coat in cold weather?

Yes, within limits. Our polyaspartics stay workable in cold Idaho garages, but pot life shortens as temperature rises and cure stretches as it drops. Keep the slab above 40F and rising, and never coat concrete that is within 5F of the dew point.

Ordering & Pickup

Do I pay online?

No. Add material to your cart and reserve it — we confirm stock and final pricing, then you pay in person when you pick up in the Treasure Valley.

Do I need an account?

Guests can check out with just a name, email and phone. An account keeps your order history in one place so repeat orders take about ten seconds.

How do I know when my order is ready?

We call or text once your material is staged, and your order status updates to Ready for Pickup under My Orders.

Do you deliver?

Local pickup is standard. For larger commercial orders across Ada County and the Treasure Valley we can arrange freight — note it on your quote request.

Care & Warranty

How do I clean a coated floor?

Dust mop or blow it out, then damp mop with a neutral pH cleaner. Skip acids, citrus degreasers and anything with soap film. Rinse road salt off in the winter.

Will it yellow in the sun?

Polyaspartic top coats are UV stable and will not amber. Straight epoxy topcoats will yellow with direct sun exposure, which is why we top every exposed system with polyaspartic.

Is the material warrantied?

All Crown Polymers and Westcoat material carries the manufacturer's material warranty. Because we supply rather than install your floor, workmanship coverage depends on who applies it — ask us and we'll point you to installers we trust.

Still have a question?

Send us your square footage and slab conditions and we'll spec the whole system, usually within one business day.
